E-MRS Spring 2016, Symposium BB: Defect-induced effects in nanomaterials. Lille, France, May 2-6, 2016.

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the 2016 Spring EMRS meeting, which will be held in Lille, France, May 2-6, 2016.
We would like to draw your particular attention to the symposium BB: Defect-induced effects in nanomaterials.
The symposium addresses intriguing possibilities of tailoring different properties of low-dimensional and nano-materials in a controlled manner by introducing dopants (e.g. implantation) or creating growth- and radiation-induced defects. The latest achievements in theory and experiment will be presented and discussed by academic and industrial researchers.

Detailed information can be found at the following link:

Hot topics of symposium BB include:

  • Effects of grain boundaries and interfaces on the diffusion and transport processes in nanomaterials.
  • Swift heavy ion irradiation as a means to tailor nanomaterials.
  • Electronic structure of defects in nano-structures; consequences for carrier transport, magnetism, optical and electronic properties, as well as device parameters.
  • Creation, evolution and properties of radiation defects in nanosize materials and heterostructures; the role of interfaces, non-stoichiometry, strain and adjacent layers.
  • Defects in low-dimensional materials: use of defects as microprobes; multiscale computer modeling of defect creation and transformation in nanomaterials.
  • Novel technological processes of micro-, nano- and optoelectronics using defects and radiation effects in nanostructures.
