  •      The effects of optical hysteresis and of optical bistability were found in impurity cholesteric liquid crystals with helical distributed feedback that exist at a relatively low threshold of the laser intensity (5 kW/cm2) and have a fast switching time (8 ns).
Author's certificate number 1336767, on May 8, 1987 issued by the USSR State Committee for Inventions and Discoveries for "Method development of optical bistability and bistable optical cell",
the authors were M. Kukhtarev, G. Klimusheva, L. Zagaynova, I. Krzhanovskiy, N. Lihum.

  •      Techniques for fabrication of new composite materials based on mesomorphic glasses of metal-alkanoates with different organic impurities as well as with semiconductor and metallic nanoparticles are developed.
    G.Klimusheva, Yu. Garbovskiy, S. Bugaychuk, A. Tolochko.

  •      The effect of formation of a bi-layer cell («a nano-sized layer of electro-chromic dye (viologen) – a layer of lyotropic ionic liquid crystal&ruquo;) under applying dc electrical field was found. Dynamic hologram recording was realized in such cells that is characterised by nanosecond time of the grating recording and microsecond time of the grating decay. A new nonlinear-optical mechanism of reversible photoconversion of viologen dimmers into cation-radicals was found and investigated theoretically. Such materials are promising for applications in devices for photonics, fast recording and processing of optical information.

  •      It was found that the most effective transport of the charge carriers (the potassium cations) in lyotropic ionic liquid crystal (which is a smectic electrolyte) occurs along nanosized two-dimensional cation-anion layers contining water molecules. As a result, a mobility of potassium cations becomes in several times greater compared with bulk (three-dimensional) isotropic solutions.
    Yu.Garbovskiy, A.Koval'chuk, G.Klimusheva.

  •      It was shown that covering a dye film with a lyotropic ionic liquid crystal layer (preparation of a double-layer cell) makes the possibility to record only dynamic holographic gratings in contrast to the case of uncovered dye films where only stationary holographic relief grating recording occurs.
    Yu.Garbovskiy, G.Klimusheva, S.Bugaychuk.

  •      It was found that anisotropic glasses based on cobalt-alkanoates with intrinsic layered structure demonstrate an efficient third-order nonlinear-optical response, which has an electronic origin (a mechanism of laser-induced electronic nonlinear polarization), at nanosecond time scale.
    F.Gridyakina, G.Klimusheva, S.Bugaychuk, A.Tolochko.

  •      Strong thermo-optical nonlinearity in cadmium octanoate composites of metal alkanoate glasses containing CdSe nanoparticles has been discovered at relatively low-power CW laser irradiation.
    A.Lyashchova, D.Fedorenko, Yu.Garbovskiy, G.Klimusheva.

  •      The complex Ginzburg-Landau equation has been obtained for the case of interaction of coherent waves in a dynamic nonlinear medium. The pecularities of dissipative solitons in such systems are under study.
