Onset of sliding for three-layer soft lubricant  (Nl=3, short version)

Stick-slip motion for vdrive= 0.03.

Left panel: starting from an annealed configuration (run "t02");

Right panel: after a set of runs with  vdrive= 0.1, 0.3, 1 (two times), 0.3, 0.1 and finally again 0.03 (run "t09").

Onset of sliding starting from the annealed (α) and stick (γ) configurations during stick-slip motion for vdrive= 0.03

Movies for atomic motion.

The left-top panel shows a side view.

The bottom panel shows the top and bottom views, where

the left-bottom panel shows the top view with the top substrate and the top lubricant layer being removed (the atoms of the middle layer are in red while the bottom lubricant layer is in green), while

the right-bottom panel is for the bottom view with the bottom substrate and the bottom lubricant layer being removed (again, the atoms of the middle layer are in red while the top lubricant layer is in green).

Also the right-top panel shows evolution of (averaged) local potential energy (in green) and velocities (in red) in the middle lubricant layer only; diamonds show the atomic positions.

(α) Onset of sliding starting from an annealed configuration (file "z01")

(γ3) Onset of slip for the LoLS (layer-over-layer sliding) regime (file "x02")
