Dr. HdR Julien Cardin

Dr. HdR Julien Cardin
Team leader from NIMPH at Research Center on Ions, Materials and Photonics (CIMAP), Laboratory, France

Dr. Julien CARDIN (CIMAP) studied physics and received a PhD in Solid state physics (highest honors) from University of Nantes, France (2004).and Habilitation from University of Caen Normandy, France (2015).
First work was on the development and characterization of perovskite PZT thin films ferroelectric for optical applications with an original development of prism spectroscopy technique (M-lines) through the determination of optical losses and the analysis of two and three-layer system. In 2005, he joined the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm (Sweden) in the laboratory of Photonics and Microwave (MAP IMF) as research associate for two years contract. He contributed to the development of hybrid applications based on photonic crystals silicon/silica and electro-optic polymer materials. He achieved numerical modeling of hybrid silicon/silica/polymer waveguide tunable directional coupler and the development of deposition and characterization of organic electro-optic materials. In 2007, he joined the NIMPH (Nanomaterials, Ions and Metamaterials for Photonics) team from CIMAP (Center for Research on Ions, Materials and Photonics) laboratory at the University of Caen Normandy. He developed the optical materials characterizations (m-lines, PL, Abs…) of rare earth (erbium, neodymium, ytterbium…) doped materials such as silicon rich silicon oxide, Ga2O3, HfO2 or the ZnO. He also developed characterization of dielectric composite media/metal with plasmonic properties. More recently, he develops methods of optical modeling of light-matter interactions in different configurations reflecting the applications developed at CIMAP laboratory. These modeling methods (ADE-FDTD, transfer matrix, discrete dipole approximation ...) are applied to the study of devices such as rare earth and silicon Nano grains based optical waveguide amplifier, study of plasmonic properties of deformed metal metallic nanoparticles by irradiation and more recently thin Films for frequency conversion for photovoltaics application.
Julien Cardin is the co-author of more than 97 papers (articles, proc. ), he presented 17 national and international oral conference, has one patent, and participated in over 10 national and international research projects.
