Participants of the social event “Science Picnic” had an opportunity to see that doing science is interesting! The Science Picnic was organized jointly by the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and dedicated to 25th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine and 160th anniversary of birthday of famous Ukrainian poet Ivan Franko.
The aim of Science Picnic was to raise the status of science in society and to encourage people of all ages to self-development and attracting of innovations in their lives. The event was held for the first time in the framework of the International conference NANO-2016. Institute of Physics of the NAS of Ukraine and its international partners held the conference for the fourth time. This year the conference attracted more than 600 participants from 29 countries. The event was supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
As Dr. Olena Fesenko, Head of Department for International research and development cooperation of the Institute of Physics noted, more than 1000 children of different ages attended the event that indicated high level of youth’s interest in innovations and the desire for self-education. «That means that supporting this interest will lead to progressive and high-tech future of Ukraine», - she said.
Scientific Picnic gave children the opportunity to familiarize with modern robotechnics. Using special toolkit they assembled various electronic devices, played hockey with robots and learned to fly a drone. Among the participants there were companies presenting “Visual programming” for 5-8 years children which allows creation of animations with fairy-tale characters. One could also familiarize with technologies aimed to make the world more convenient for people and business. There were also presented different educational programs assisting to learn English, participants could take part in interactive experiments in physics, chemistry and biology, as well as to look at fossilized bacteria.
